Here is a video I put together for mining campaign negative keywords from your AdWords search query report--can be really helpful if you have a large account.

I'm going to have to watch this tomorrow. I learned my negative keywords the hard way, paying for worthless clicks :( I have no idea why Google defaults to "broad match" searches other than to get more money from people before they realize the search phrase "tennis shoes" is showing up when people search for "tennis courts."
