Worst Link Exchange Request Ever

By Larry Kim August 15, 2011 Posted In: Link Building Comments: 12

I'm often spammed by bots and people asking for links but I thought this was pretty amusing so i wanted to share (I've just obfuscated the domain name). The part that really cracks me up is the the part in bold, below (lol). This has got to be the worst link exchange request ever.

Dear owner of http://www.wordstream.com,

I'm the webmaster of http:// www. xx-xxxxx.xxx.

We came across your site http://www.wordstream.com on the Internet and feel that it would fit perfectly into our collection of quality links at http:// www. xx-xxxxx.xxx.

The Google PR of this site is currently 5.

We'd appreciate it if you place a link back to our site using the following HTML code (just copy and paste it into your links page):

On your page, the code will look like this:

We really need a good backlinks because we was for years in the top of search engines in our country but now many competitive companies have bought a lot of quality links and that destroy our positions. We will be very happy if you are so kind to help us get out from this problem

with one single step (Link to us) on your webpage or any other webpage you have even portfolio project with good pagerank. Of course we can link you back on pour projects.

Best regards,
Bojan

The 'honest' approach huh? Sad thing is, if they wrote the e-mail correctly it could actually work. When will people understand the value in taking the time to personalize an e-mail? It really does go far.

This is hilarious! The 'we are victims' statement which reads like " competitive companies have bought links, and since we're not competitive, we're begging for some links from you." Thanks for sharing this... this is one of those jewels that needs to put in display!

To be honest I'm not surprised by these kind of actions anynmore. I'm running a wordpress site for my company and you do not want to know (or may be you do ha ha) what kind of comments I got on my blog or mails I receive. Anyway thx for sharing Larry and love the site btw.
