I think people often subconsciously use the number of comments as an indicator of the blog's (and company's) credibility. Although commentors themselves might not convert, having comments on your blog - and therefore portraying the image you are well connected and respected within your industry - can only help to improve conversion from prospective visitors.

I would therefore argue yes - comments can have an (indirect) business value.
