Keyword Manager: How to delete a keyword group

Once you've tackled the first hurdle of finding keywords, you're left wondering how to best manage them.  Become familiar with the way proper keyword management improves Quality Score, and use the dynamic data WordStream continues to find for you to ensure your campaign is performing at its best.  If a keyword group isn't performing well, you may want to pause the campaign instead of deleting it. On the other hand, if you've decided that a specific group is not a good fit or it is related to a product you no longer offer, you may want to delete it.

Deleting the keyword group does not delete the keywords from within the group, but rather returns them to their parent group so they may be better segmented.  Details about parent groups and their children can be found in the FAQ regarding duplicate keywords.

when should i delete a keyword group?

Sometimes you'll find yourself with a very small, too specific keyword group that only contains a couple keywords.  In this case, it usually makes sense to return the keywords to their parent group and/or add them to another segment so you don't waste time making an ad for so few keywords.  Likewise, if your keyword group isn't performing well or no longer pertains to your business, you may want to delete it entirely.

how do i delete it?

In the WordStream tab, highlight the group you want to delete and right click your mouse.  Select the second option, "Delete Selected Group."  If the group has children underneath it, those groups will disappear as well.  The keywords in the group will flow up to the appropriate parent group.

Right click on the group you want to delete and select the second option.

By segmenting keywords by relevancy, or keyword popularity, through WordStream's workflow tab, you may never feel the need to delete a keyword group.  However, don't be afraid to experiment with different groups to find the ones that perform the best for you.

Keywords should be assigned into relevant groups which must be small enough to maintain that relevancy.  As new keywords are uploaded or discovered in WordStream, the software continues to generate segment suggestions and alerts you when a group becomes too large.  To ensure keywords are segmented with high relevancy, which in turn will help increase Quality Score, follow WordStream's keyword segment suggestion tool.  Sign up for our webinar to see how proper keyword management and keyword software can boost your business.
