Keyword Group properties are a collection of attributes WordStream uses to define your group.
NOTE: Another means of creating custom keyword groups  is to use the keyword grouping software 's advanced search dialog, which is outlined in the create keyword groups tutorial . Additionally, the best way to group keywords  is "segmenting keywords " into keyword group themes .
In the event that you've created a Keyword Group, however, and would like to alter the characteristics of that group, this tutorial will show you how!

Viewing Your Keyword Group's Properties
Let's imagine we own a used bookstore, and that we've created a bookstore group that we now want to alter. One thing we can do is quickly look at that keyword group's properties:
Basically, this is just like looking at the properties of an image: this screen is showing you information about the group you created. While "Keyword Group Name" is fairly obvious, a few of the other choices are a bit less so, so let's take a look at each of them:
- Keyword Frequency - This represents the traffic driven by the bookstore keyword group.
- Associated Ad Groups - This represents the AdWords Ad Groups you've mapped a Keyword Group to (you can learn more about mapping to Ad Groups ).
- Number of Queries - This is a reference to how many "queries" or "positive filters" you've assigned to a Keyword Group. We'll talk more about this in the next section.
- Number of Negative Terms - This is a reference to how many negatives are associated with your Keyword Group. You can find more about finding and setting negatives here .
- Number of Positive Terms - This has to do with positive associations you set through the negative keyword  tool. You can also learn more about this in the negative keyword tutorial.
- Number of Keywords - This refers to the number of keywords in an account.
- Number of Children - This refers to the number of "child groups" a group has. So in this instance, I have segmented the "bookstore" group into five sub-segmentations.
Let's imagine that we want to add a keyword cluster to our keyword group. In this case, the group is currently set up so that all keywords including "bookstore" and "bookstores" will be filtered into our group, but not keywords containing the phrase "book store" (if you're interested in learning more about how these segmentations are created, that's covered in the segment keywords tutorial ).
Adding this additional "query" to the Keyword Group is a very simple process:
Let's take a look at each of these fields:
- Query - This refers to the keywords that your Keyword Group is constructed around. So, if we want our group to include keywords with "bookstore" in them, bookstore will be a query.
- Min/Max Terms - This metric refers to keyword length. So "bookstore" is one term, while "book store" is two. This is a useful filter if you want to create a keyword group for one term , or if you wanted to create a group for keywords that are three terms or longer , among other things.
- Min/Max Count - This has to do with visit totals. This is useful for groups where I want to "cut off" a bit of the long tail ; perhaps including only keywords with 2 or 3 visits or more.
So, to include an additional query, simply click "add new", and to remove one, click "remove selected".
