Twitter is a social network [1] and microblogging [2] application. Users share information via a stream of posts or updates, known as tweets, with a maximum length of 140 characters. Unlike Facebook [3] updates, tweets by default are public and can be viewed by anyone (though users can opt to make their Twitter streams private).
