Search Directory: What Is a Search Directory?
A search directory is an online index of websites organized by category and alphabetically, similar to a phone book's yellow pages. Search directories are generally populated through submission and approval; as such they differ from search engines, which depend on web crawlers to index results. Having your site listed in a search directory can potentially increase traffic and serve as a signal of domain authority. The Open Directory Project, or DMOZ, is a well-known search directory.
